Consists of: -- 2 hours of Florida Laws & Rules for Nurses (Mandatory); This course provides nurses who are licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida updates regarding the Florida Nurse Practice Act and the approval of the Nurse Licensure Compact. In addition, it describes the Florida Board of Nursing, Florida statutes related to nursing, and the Florida Administrative Code. It also explains the relationship between Florida?s Nurse Licensure Compact and the Florida Nurse Practice Act and summarizes relevant information from Chapters 456 and 464 of the Florida statutes and rules in Title 64B9 of the Florida Administrative Code. --2 hours Prevention of Medical Errors in Nursing (Mandatory); Medical errors are a silent and largely unseen tragedy. Estimates suggest that medical errors and other instances of preventable harm at hospitals result in the death of 210,000 to 440,000 Americans each year. This course addresses preventable medical errors and provides strategies for nurses in Florida to use to prevent or reduce common errors. --2 hours Nursing Domestic Violence (Mandatory every 3rd cycle); Nursing is in a unique position to identify and help break the cycle of domestic violence. This course focuses on the cycle of violence, as well as the signs, symptoms, and intervention strategies to break the cycle of domestic violence and provide care for the victims of abuse. --2 hours Communication & Team Building Practical Strategies for Clinical Practice; Errors in health care cost millions of dollars each year as well as countless loss of life. Good and clear communication is a key to the prevention of medical errors and helping to ensure a healthy work environment. This course focuses on practical strategies for the improvement of both verbal and non-verbal communication. -- 6 hours Healthcare Violence: Why Peers Bully Peers; Bullying and violence in the workplace occurs far too often. Whether it is between professionals of a single discipline or among different disciplines, the consequences of bullying and violence are the same. This course presents an overview of horizontal violence as well as characteristics of both abusers and victims. Causes of violence are presented as well as strategies to reduce workplace violence. -- 10 hours Vaccine Preventable Diseases: Dealing with the Treat of Potential Disease Outbreak; Some members of the public, including some healthcare professionals, have concerns about the number of vaccines administered, the timetable for administration, and the safety and effectiveness of immunization programs. Nurses should be aware of these concerns and be prepared to address them when interacting with patients and families.
