Course overview

Consists of: -- 2 hours of Florida Laws & Rules: Staying Up to Date; Upon completion the learner will be able to define the Nurse Compact Law and explain how it impacts the nursing profession in Florida, describe three major sections of the Nurse Practice Act, detail four violations described in the Nurse Practice Act and describe the relevance of HIPAA to the practice of nursing. -- 2 hours of Prevention of Medical Errors in Nursing; Medical errors are the worst fear of all health care professionals, and every nurse who delivers direct patient care knows that it is inevitable that she/he will make an error or witness one being made. How common are medical errors? The exact incidence of medical errors is, for many reasons, unknown. A certain percentage of medical errors are not reported. Some errors occur, but the individual(s) involved do not recognize that an error has been made. There is no universally agreed upon definition of the term, there is no standardized way to report medical errors, and there is no centralized agency that collects this information. -- 2 hours of Nursing: Domestic Violence; Domestic violence has no limitations to age, gender, social, ethnic, geographic, education, economic, or race boundaries. There is no typical victim, yet it affects the health and well-being of all persons involved in the crime. The following course content discusses the subject of spousal/partner abuse, including assessment, detection, intervention strategies, community resources, cultural factors, and same-gender abuse dynamics. -- 4 hours of Antibiotic-Resistant Infectious Diseases: Clinical Update; Antibiotic-resistant illnesses cost billions of dollars each year and result in thousands of unnecessary lives lost. This course focuses on the most common antibiotic-resistant infections, their identification, and recommended treatments. -- 12 hours of Cancer Nursing, Prevention & Early Detection for the Adult patient; This course focuses on cancer prevention, early cancer detection, and nursing care of adults with cancer during and after treatment. This course is intended to help nurses provide not only cancer care, but accurate and up-to-date information as well. -- 4 hours of Pathophysiology of the Cardiovascular System; Caring for diseases of the cardiovascular system is part of every day nursing care. This course reviews the pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system and updates current standards and therapies. It is a vital course of contemporary best practices nursing care.
