Course overview

Marfan syndrome is an autosomal-dominant inherited disorder of the connective tissue. Patients diagnosed with Marfan syndrome may experience damage to or deformities of the aortic valve, aorta, eyes, skeleton, and other organs and structures. Health problems vary among patients. Healthcare providers who work in diverse settings should be well informed about Marfan syndrome so that they can evaluate patients with signs for early diagnosis and appropriate treatments and interventions. Knowing the importance of early recognition, diagnosis, and treatment can help healthcare professionals treat patients and help them lead long and healthy lives. The goal of this course is to provide nurses and physical therapists in acute care settings with information about the manifestations, pathology, and treatment of Marfan syndrome.
