Course overview
Objectives: Students will learn about the principles, pathology and management of the pediatric patient in an emergency. On completion of this module, the learner will be able to: Describe the execution of a primary assessment of the pediatric patient in the field Review the steps to follow when conducting a respiratory assessment and managing a pediatric airway Discuss the execution of a neurological assessment in the pediatric patientReview the principles of intubation and bag-mask ventilation Discuss pediatric respiratory conditions including croup, asthma, epiglottitis, pneumonia, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and ingestion of a foreign body Discuss the principles of mechanical ventilation in the pediatric population
