In the United States, chronic wounds affect approximately 6.5 million patients. The Emergency Department (ED) nurse will encounter this patient population on a daily basis. It is estimated that $25 billion is spent annually on treatment of chronic wounds. This burden is growing rapidly due to increasing healthcare costs, an aging population, and a sharp rise in the incidence of diabetes and obesity. This course is intended for the nurse working in an ED setting. It can be used for orientation of nurses new to the ED environment or for any nurse who wants to increase their knowledge of wound assessment and care.
