Target Audience: The target audience for this education program is nurse managers interested in enhancing their ability to manage the power and politics associated with the managerial role. Course Overview: The role of the nurse manager is a challenging one. Although they have positional power, many nurse managers continue to feel powerlessness, caught in the middle, and that they actually have the responsibility without the authority. To effectively fulfill the managerial role, it is important to harness positive power, acquire savvy political skills, and recognize the possibilities for managerial success when the two are combined. Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to: 1. Measure how much power the managerial role has in his or her organization. 2. Describe strategies for harnessing power in personal and professional roles. 3. Demonstrate political acumen that is necessary for the fulfillment of the managerial role.
