Even the slightest possibility of spinal injuries requires immediate careful treatment in order to ensure the best possible outcome. Health clinicians must evaluate traumatic spinal cord injuries for the permanent, physical dysfunctions and limitations they may cause. In addition, a spinal cord injury can cause dysfunction of the patient's organ systems leading to complications related to spinal injuries. Organ system dysfunction requires an interdisciplinary team approach to treat the patients physical and mental health needs. Not all spinal cord injuries can be resolved with surgical treatment, but surgery may provide relief for some types of injuries. This is the third in a series of courses on spinal cord injuries.
