Course overview

This class will present a historical overview of dying in America, as well as the three types of care available in the US today. End of life care will be viewed via the cultural and religious norms, as well as the ethical principles of autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, justice, and the ethical dilemma of double effect. The codes of conduct for CRC, CDMS, and CCM will be discussed as they relate to care of the dying. The particular issue of end of life care for dementia patients will also be addressed.
