Course overview

Florida Healthcare professionals will learn about human trafficking, and the legislation related to it. More specifically, this includes the House Bill 99, known as the Florida Safe Harbor Act. It allows for minors to be deemed as dependent instead of delinquent as it gives law enforcement the discretion to either arrest or deliver the minor to a short term safe house, if available. Human trafficking is, under both federal and Florida law, it is defined as the transporting, soliciting, recruiting, harboring, providing, or obtaining of another person for transport; for the purposes of forced labor, domestic servitude or sexual exploitation using force, fraud and/or coercion. This course will differentiate the different types of Court involvement for assessments and treatment. This class will cover both legal and professional responsibilities for those that practice in the substance abuse fields. All nursing professionals must complete this course every biennium beginning January 1, 2019. The first licensees who will need to fulfill this CE requirement are those renewing April 30, 2019.
