Course overview

Vacuum-assisted drainage has been used in surgical applications for many years, but only recently has this concept been applied to healing. Known as negative pressure wound therapy, the use of vacuum-assisted drainage to reduce edema and increase blood flow has proven beneficial for many patients with different types of wounds and injuries. Some wounds treated with a vacuum-assisted drainage have healed in less than half the standard time, a strategy that has been beneficial to both patients and medical clinicians alike. This is the second of a two-part series. No Test Required!
