The goal of this module is to provide healthcare providers with information about the care and maintenance, potential complications and interventions related to peripheral and central venous access. Upon completion of this module, the participant will be able to: State the proper method and volume of normal saline to maintain the patency of central venous access devices Implement the correct procedural steps for a central venous access device dressing change State the proper dressing change frequency for a gauze dressing over a central venous access device List the major potential complications of peripheral and central venous catheters Explain the three causes of phlebitis Explain the nursing interventions for catheter embolism
