Discussion of problematic sexual behaviors (PSBs) in children and adolescents including myths and facts, differences between children and adolescents with PSBs and adult sex offenders, safety concerns related to children and adolescents with PSBs, scientifically validated models of how to intervene in PSBs, and appropriate treatments for children and adolescents with PSBs. Youth who exhibit and engage in problematic sexual behaviors (PSBs) are a diverse group, occurring in children across age ranges, socioeconomic levels, cultural groups, living circumstances, and family structures. Research has shown that approximately 23 percent of sexual assaults are committed by juveniles. No single treatment method is successful in all cases, but with appropriate interventions and supervision, most youth with PSBs are able to receive outpatient treatment while living and interacting safely with others. Youth demonstrating PSBs present a unique challenge for both parents and healthcare providers, and requires a multidisciplinary approach to ensure that treatment is individualized and unique. This program discusses PSBs in youth, including myths, safety concerns, appropriate interventions, and best practices in the treatment of PSBs.
