Course overview

Students will learn about the principles, pathology and management of the patient experiencing a mechanical circulatory support and pacing emergency and the principles of shock management in medical and traumatic emergencies. On completion of this module, the learner will be able to: Articulate the principles of mechanical circulatory support Discuss intra-Aortic balloon pumps Review the use of ventricular assist devices Describe the management of various pacing emergencies Describe 4 types of shock states Review mechanism of injury for most commonly encountered medical and surgical emergencies Discuss 4 common electrolyte disturbances seen in shock and review management strategies
