Course overview

Intended audience: Primary care providers or women’s health providers caring for adult women with a history of mastectomy. Coarse Overview: After mastectomy, some women may choose reconstructive surgery. There are a multiple reconstructive options and each has benefits, drawbacks and unique potential for future complications. This course will review the three main types of reconstructive surgery and special considerations for the primary care provider of patients with a history of reconstruction. Considerations include modified screening schedules, expected findings during a clinical exam and signs of complications. This course will also briefly review the unique mental health needs of patients after reconstructive surgery. Learning Objectives: Understand the mechanisms of different reconstruction options available. Understand potential complications of different reconstruction methods. Understand and apply the role of primary care provider in post-reconstruction care.
