Audience: The intended audience for this course is nurses who would like to expand their knowledge of ADHD and/or interact with people who have ADHD. Course Overview: This course will provide a description of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and associated symptoms, as well as symptom management that includes behavioral and pharmacologic treatment modalities. Objectives: Upon completion of the course, the learner should be able to: Discuss the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for ADHD and explain the importance of obtaining a thorough history in formulating a diagnosis. Describe four ways in which ADHD affects patients with ADHD and those around them. Identify three behavioral approaches to managing ADHD and explain the importance of a patient-centered approach to behavior management. Describe the pharmacologic treatment of ADHD.
