PERSONAL NARRATIVE FILM: COG REHABILITATION AFTER TBI

Course overview

Cognitive rehabilitation addressing the impairment level after brain injury poses a challenge for generalization at the participation level. This presentation offers an example of community-based, self-directed cognitive rehabilitation in a natural setting through creating personal narrative-based films. Film content addresses deficits in context, providing a starting point for context-oriented treatment and a model for multi-faceted social communication intervention. Objective Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: Describe the WHO International Classification of Health, Disability, and Heath (ICF) model of disability and intervention Identify goals for cognitive rehabilitation at the impairment, activity limitation, and social participation levels Examine the overlap between arts, storytelling, and social communication interventions Describe a context-oriented treatment approach in clinic- and community-based settings Describe filmed personal narratives as a potential therapy tool, targeting compensations, social participation and quality of life
