MEM102 - Wandering and Elopement in Long-Term Care

Course overview

Keeping resident’s safe is one of the most important things a caregiver can do. Knowing who is at risk and what to do if a resident wanders or elopes can help protect the resident from unnecessary harm. The Nursing Home Reform Act of 1987 requires nursing homes to provide residents with adequate supervision to prevent harm. If the resident is injured as a result of wandering or elopement the care facility may be found liable for failing to keep residents safe while in their care.
