Course overview

All staff working in the long term care setting will increase their knowledge and skills in caring for persons diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder. Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to: 1 - Describe how AD affects communication skills. 2 - Discuss strategies and guidelines for verbal communication. 3 - Explain strategies and guidelines for nonverbal communication. 4 - Describe validation therapy and its usefulness in communicating with residents with AD. 5 - Discuss and execute strategies for communicating with residents who are non- communicative or non-responsive.
