Course overview

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, sometimes called ADHD, is a chronic condition and the most commonly diagnosed behavioral disorder among children and adolescents. According to the US Department of Health, it affects between 3 and 5 percent of school-aged children, and occurs three times more often in boys than in girls. Children and adolescents with attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder have difficulty controlling their behavior in school and social settings. They also tend to be accident-prone. On average, about one child in every classroom in the United States needs help for ADHD. While some children outgrow ADHD, about 60% continue to have symptoms as adults.
