Course overview
Goals The goal of this article is to explore the pharmacology and pharmacokinetics of the various anti-hypertensives comparing the benefits including the safety and tolerability issues encountered. Objectives Identify the three sub-classes of CCBs that block the influx of calcium ions into the cells of vascular smooth-muscle and myocardial tissue Describe the mechanism of action of CCBs Discuss the pharmacologic treatment for managing hypertension in hemodialysis patients Discuss the mechanism of action of beta blockers Discuss the various vasoactive drugs used in HTN treatment Describe the role of thiazide diuretics in BP reduction
