The Role of SLP in Using Language to Build Writing Skills

Course overview

Have you asked yourself if SLPs have a role in writing development? Oral language and writing have a reciprocal relationship and therefore, SLPs have a role if they choose. There are six areas of writing development that will be explored with connections to specific speech and language skills that help to build those areas. Additionally, instructionally based differentiated writing options will be explored. Objective Following the course, participants will be able to: 1. name the areas of the presented writing components necessary for literacy 2. make direct connections between the writing components and speech language skills 3. name links to classroom expectations and success 4. name digital tools and resources Additional Information This course is offered for 0.15 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate Level, Professional Area) Course Timeline: 15 minutes: introduction 15 minutes: overview of the areas of the presented writing components necessary for literacy 15 minutes: overview and application of ideas & content and organization 15 minutes: overview and application of voice and word choice 15 minutes: overview and application of sentence fluency and conventions 15 minutes: review and additional digital tools and online resources
