This collaborative document presents recommendations for the prevention of HIV transmission effective with both adolescents and adults who have HIV. Interventions based on risk screening and risk reduction, as well as HIV partner services are discussed in great detail. Topics include infrastructure strategies, essential elements of intervention, evidence supporting the recommendations, issues that influence implementation, special populations, and implementation resources. This course is based upon material published by a coalition of groups concerned with HIV (see citation below) and is available as an open access article. This course on HIV prevention is designed for social workers, professional counselors, psychologists, nurses, and substance abuse counselors, who do clinical work. This course is appropriate for beginning, intermediate and advanced level practitioners who wish to develop their understanding of preventing HIV transmission by infected persons. The course material includes a review of evidence-based interventions. It may also be useful for licensed clinicians who require clinical continuing education courses for license renewal.
