Course overview

Urinary incontinence is a significant health problem with considerable social and economic impact in all treatment settings. Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapist and Nurses have varied educational and clinical backgrounds in the diagnosis and treatment of urinary incontinence. Often they have a fear of examination of the pelvic region, a decrease in confidence of their knowledge of the urogential region, and reduced comfort of discussions surrounding incontinence. To overcome these barriers, clinicians require education on the types of urinary incontinence that patients present as well as basic tools for assessment and classification. This course gives an intermediate level overview of what urinary incontinence is, how to classify it by type, and how to use common tools in various settings to evaluate typse of urinary incontinence and progress.
