The aging population continues to grow rapidly in the United States, increasing the demand for healthcare services that address the unique needs of older adults. Many elderly individuals face vulnerabilities related to chronic illness, cognitive impairment, functional limitations, social isolation, and financial dependence. These vulnerabilities may place older adults at increased risk for abuse, neglect, exploitation, and adverse health outcomes. Healthcare professionals frequently interact with older adults in clinical, hospital, and community settings and are often in a position to identify signs of vulnerability that may otherwise go unnoticed. Recognizing these risk factors early allows providers to intervene appropriately and ensure that older adults receive safe and effective care. This course provides healthcare professionals with an overview of how to identify vulnerable older adults and recognize indicators of abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Participants will review common risk factors, assessment techniques, diagnostic considerations, pharmacologic concerns, and treatment strategies that support the health and safety of aging populations. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary collaboration, documentation, and reporting procedures to protect vulnerable individuals.
