Course overview

This overview on human trafficking provides an update to the 2014 report and reviews patterns of trafficking in persons, trafficking flows, and the legislative and criminal justice response to trafficking in persons. Similarities in the backgrounds of traffickers and victims are covered, as are the reasons for which humans are trafficked. Also discussed is the impact of migration on trafficking, especially in light of war and conflict. Trafficking of children is covered as a special case. This course is based upon material published by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and is available as an open access article. This course on human trafficking is designed for social workers, professional counselors, psychologists, nurses, and substance abuse counselors, who do clinical work. This course is appropriate for beginning, intermediate and advanced level practitioners who wish to develop their understanding of trafficking in persons. It may also be useful for licensed clinicians who require clinical continuing education courses for license renewal.
