HISTORICAL HYDROTHERAPY THE KNEIPP CURE

Course overview

In an effort to encourage hydrotherapy students to broaden their knowledge base in the historical aspects of water therapies, Harvest Field Institute of Learning LLC has gathered a collection of classic writings (all of which are included in this course and available free-of-charge to the public through Archive.org) and developed a series of exams to test students’ reading comprehension of these texts. Each book has been individually selected by the school for its historical influence on the practice of modern hydrotherapy, and a word count has been completed to estimate the equivalent number of continuing education hours students should receive for reading such text(s) based on standards presented by national regulatory boards such as the NCBTMB. In addition, an exam has been formulated by the course instructor to test the reader’s retention and is equivalent to 5 questions per CE hour being offered by the school. The required text for this course is The Kneipp Cure. It is the English translation of Sebastian Kneipp’s book, Meine Wasserkur, and was published in 1897 by New York, Kneipp Cure Pub. Co. This is one of the most important books for understanding the origins of modern hydrotherapy as it was written by Sebastian Kneipp himself and covers his theories, treatments, and doctrine for utilizing water as a way to ease discomfort and improve health and wellness. It contains well-preserved pictorial descriptions of Kneipp’s hydrotherapy treatments to provide visual (spatial) learners with images to reinforce their ability to understand these treatments more effectively. There are approximately 145,428 words in this book and an additional 5,072 words in this course guide and accompanying 50-question exam. Per the NCBTMB’s standards for continuing education completed via distance study (15,000 words per CE hour), this course meets the requirement for a total of 10 CE hours.
