Management of the hemiplegic upper extremity can be confusing for even the experienced therapist. Best practice involves using the evidence to support a holistic approach to evaluation and treatment. This course will review stroke and the resulting hemiplegic upper extremity. This course will provide an overview of the shoulder complex, its importance in the function of the upper extremity, and pain associated with stroke and subluxation. Outcome measures frequently used in practice and discussed in the literature will be examined and explained. Preventative and restorative measures supported by the evidence will be presented for the therapist's review.
