Course overview
Communicating with others is a basic human need and the foundation for all interactions. When direct support professionals effectively communicate with their clients, it can reduce feelings of isolation and improve their sense of wellbeing. There are often barriers to effective communication, especially when patients lose some or all ability to hear the spoken word. Paying attention to another's communication needs is one of the most important duties of the direct support professional. This course will discuss the basics of communication as well as the impact of hearing loss on the communication process and strategies for improving communication with clients.
