Depression is one of the most prevalent mental health disorders found in children and it can have a devastating impact on child and adolescent academic and social functioning. Childhood depression has been linked to abuse and neglect, as well as traumatic experiences such as bullying, teasing, social isolation, racial discrimination, and poverty. Untreated depression in children can lead to the development of depression as adults as well as other negative impacts. Childhood depression is a serious disorder that requires early diagnosis and treatment for long-term positive outcomes.
