Course overview

Hepatitis C virus can cause acute and chronic liver disease. The primary treatment of chronic hepatitis C is antiviral therapy. New antiviral therapy can generally eradicate the virus through an easier and shorter course of care than with prior methods and offer a different approach — targeting the virus itself to fight off the disease — that is proving successful in the fight against hepatitis C. An important consideration for patients diagnosed with chronic hepatitis C viral infection includes ongoing surveillance for liver fibrosis and other complications that can lead to significant morbidity and mortality. This is the second in a five course series on Hepatitis C.
