Course overview

Discusses various aspects of colorectal cancer, including causes, statistics, signs and symptoms, staging systems, treatment options, and short- and long-term survival. Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in both men and women, and is the second leading cause of deaths related to cancer for both men and women in the United States. In 2018, it is estimated that there will be approximately 140,250 new colorectal cancer cases, and 50,630 deaths related to colorectal cancer, representing 8.3% of all cancer deaths. Approximately 4.2% of men and women will receive a diagnosis of lung cancer during their life, and in 2015, approximately 1.3 million individuals in the United States were living with colorectal cancer. Survival rates for colorectal cancer are greatly improved when diagnosed at an early stage, thus making screening and patient education key in early detection and prevention. This program discusses colorectal cancer, including types, risk factors, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, staging, treatment, and prevention.
