Course overview

Glaucoma is a serious eye condition which, if left untreated, may result in blindness. More than three million individuals in the United States have glaucoma, and more than 120,000 people are blind as a result of glaucoma, accounting for nine to 12 percent of all cases of blindness. While there is no cure for glaucoma, with medical and/or surgical treatment, it is possible to prevent further vision loss. This program discusses best practices in the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma, including common symptoms, pharmaceutical treatment options, advantages of using laser treatments, and traditional and new surgical procedures, including the complications of each.
