Course overview

This course assists nurses in understanding the complexities of the prevention and assessment of childhood obesity and provides interventions across the pediatric age span for application in the clinical arena. Families must be at the center of assessment and intervention when considering the treatment of childhood obesity. Family relationships and their role in obesity, as well as the role of media and marketing, are examined. New recommendations for the prevention, assessment, and treatment of childhood obesity are addressed, including behavioral counseling to help motivate patients and families to make changes.
