Course overview

The goal of this continuing education module is to provide interprofessional team members with evidence-based guidance on the assessment and management of pain in a way that balances concerns for pain reduction, functional improvement, and avoidance of treatment-related harms. Describe the need to balance concerns about potential harms that result from uncontrolled pain and iatrogenic harms from its treatment Select and properly use evidence-based pain assessment tools based on the patient’s age and ability to communicate Create and implement a pain treatment plan that integrates guided imagery with pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies based on evidence-based guidelines given the pain type and patient specific risk factors or comorbidities Evaluate multimodal treatment plans with interprofessional input for patients with complex or persistent pain
