Course overview
This Course is designed to educate medical providers on HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act – 1996) . Students will review and the 1996 HIPAA legislation, infraction violations, privacy regulation in healthcare and electronic privacy within healthcare. Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to: Define the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Review the terminology of HIPAA Describe the components of HIPAA Identify patient’s rights under HIPAA Discuss when and how patient health information (PIH) may be shared Review HIPAA enforcement Review infractions Discuss patient privacy and electronic privacy Review individual and agency responsibilities
