Hip Osteoarthritis: Diagnosis and Treatment

Course overview

Hip osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic disease that affects one in four people who live to the age of 85 years old. It is estimated that 27 million adults were diagnosed with OA in 2005. OA is a common degenerative disorder of the articular cartilage and is associated with hypertrophic bone changes. Risk factors for acquiring OA include genetics, female sex, past trauma, advancing age, and obesity. Physicians can expect to see more patients with osteoarthritis as the U.S. population ages. This course will discuss the anatomy associated with hip OA, the diagnosis of OA, and the associated treatments for OA. This course will also discuss the physical therapy protocol following total hip arthroscopy and the rehabilitation goals for various therapies.
