Statement of Learning Need

Clinicians need to know the indications, dosing and dosing adjustments, contraindications and potential side effects of prochlorperazine. As the most commonly used antiemetic in the phenothiazine class, prochlorperazine helps to reduce nausea that occurs with varied acute and chronic disorders. The drug can also be effective for patients suffering from acute anxiety and has a relatively low side effect profile. 

Course Purpose

To inform health clinicians of current published information relative to basic pharmacological profile of prochlorperazine and clinical pearls on topics that were covered in the basic pharmacological profile.

Target Audience

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Registered Nurses, and other Interdisciplinary Health Team Members.
