Course overview

Discusses the use of community resources in creating wrap-around care for people living with HIV, including the health and psychosocial needs of people needing assistance, barriers to accessing services, and the effects of dependence on community resources. Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) continue to be a persistent healthcare issue in the United States, where there are an estimated 1.1 million people living with HIV. Individuals with HIV or AIDS have unique healthcare and psychosocial needs, and there are a variety of social, economic, and environmental factors that create barriers and challenges for patients living with HIV. In addition to limited resources available, some individuals living with HIV may be even more likely to encounter barriers and challenges than others due to fewer financial resources, abusive situations, and lack of support. This program discusses the healthcare and psychosocial needs of people living with HIV/AIDS, and common barriers to accessing and receiving these services.
