Course overview

This course provides healthcare professionals with an in-depth understanding of nursing impairment, including substance use disorders, mental health conditions, physical illness, and cognitive or emotional factors that may affect professional performance. Participants will learn to recognize early warning signs, understand legal and ethical responsibilities, and apply evidence-based strategies for intervention, reporting, and recovery. Emphasis is placed on patient safety, nurse well-being, and supportive, non-punitive approaches to impaired practice.
