Course overview

In many healthcare settings, the rehabilitation therapist creates a Home Program for the patient to use at home. The home program may be designed in conjunction with ongoing therapy sessions and may be the final take-away from the therapy care provided. Often the home program is referred to as a Home Exercise program but the content can cover many other elements. The rehabilitation therapist needs to use his or her knowledge, judgment and skills to assess the need for a home program, then design an appropriate one and educate the patient or caregiver(s) in the safe and proper use of the program. This course will discuss the evidence underlying use of Home Programs, exercise prescription and related therapy outcomes. Strategies and resources for home program development, patient engagement and compliance will be reviewed.
