This course is designed to develop clinical competencies around the core skills identified as essential for addictions counseling education: Screening, Intake, Orientation, Assessment, Treatment Planning, Counseling, Case Management, Crisis Intervention, Client Education, Referral, Reports and Recordkeeping, a nd Consultation (Ethics, Professional Issues, and Cultural Diversity). The course will explore the subject of abuse of alcohol, other drugs, and related issues and conditions. The course will provide students with specific skill sets in each of the core functions areas. This course suffices a requirement of a Marriage and Family core class that will be taught in the context of a systemic perspective and contextually and culturally specific approach that addresses family relational issues.
