Posttraumatic Growth in Parents and Pediatric Patients

Course overview

Both children and their parents can be traumatized by serious pediatric illness for a variety of reasons (e.g., its onset, hospitalization, acute physical injury). While much research has been done on the development of PTSD and/or PTSD-related symptoms, less has been done on some of the positive outcomes of traumatic experiences. Posttraumatic growth can contribute to significant positive outcomes for individuals to include greater appreciation for life. This article presents a literature review regarding posttraumatic growth in parents and patients with serious pediatric illness.
