This course reviews the Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) for Clinicians dealing with trauma, substance and alcohol abuse, and mental illness among the American Indian and Alaska Native population. This protocol reinforces the importance of delivering culturally responsive, evidenced-based services to address these behavioral health challenges. This course focuses on Chapter 2 of Part 1 of the TIP, entitled: Practical Guide to the Provision of Behavioral Health Services for American Indians and Alaskan Natives. The target audience for this section are behavioral health service providers. The purpose of this section is to provide behavioral health service providers with vignettes of four American Indian and Alaska Native clients and their providers to provide learning objectives as well as client-provider dialog that demonstrates specific knowledge and skills for providing behavioral health counseling to American Indians and Alaska Natives.
