Course overview
This module will inform nurses working in maternal-child settings about the trends that may affect their patients who have, or may have, genetic health conditions. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to: identify three types of diseases that can be identified using expanded newborn screening techniques, discuss options available to couples at high risk for having a child with cystic fibrosis during the preconception and prenatal period, and discuss three metabolic diseases for which enzyme replacement therapy is now available.
