Course overview

Having a CDI program is becoming a necessary industry standard for hospitals. Rural hospitals have a particularly challenging time filling these roles due to lack of trained staff. These courses are designed to provide training at varying levels in rural hospitals in order to equip them to fulfill the CDI functions within their hospital. Part One is designed to help guide a Clinical Documentation Specialist through the steps of CDI in the Outpatient Setting. This course examines the fundamental concepts and techniques for managing an outpatient CDI project. Part Two, CDI in the Outpatient Setting - Case Studies, is designed to help guide a Clinical Documentation Specialist through the application of CDI steps in the Emergency Department Outpatient Setting. This course implements a Case Study approach with the student, building on proficiencies achieved on Part One delving into how Outpatient CDI in the Emergency Department can be applied at any hospital. Part Three, Breaking Bad Habits that result in Query Fatigue, is designed to help guide a Clinical Documentation Specialist or Coding Specialist through the steps of querying a provider. This course examines the fundamental concepts and techniques for managing writing a compliant query supported by clinical indicators. Part Four, CDI in the Inpatient Setting, designed to provide training to inexperienced staff in rural hospitals in order to equip them to fulfill the CDI functions within their hospital. CDI in the Inpatient Setting is designed to help guide a Clinical Documentation Specialist through the steps of CDI in the Inpatient Setting.
