What you'll learn

By the completion of this module, the learner should be able to:

  • Define the distinguishing features of palliative care, compare and contrast to hospice care and end-of-life (EOL) care, and describe models of palliative care delivery.
  • Discuss the eight domains of palliative care and the nurse’s role in care delivery as aligned with clinical practice guidelines.
  • Identify the role of advance care planning (ACP) as a core aspect of palliative care and demonstrate understanding of the essential documents and features comprising ACP

Course overview

This module will focus on the components of palliative care and the palliative care delivery process with specific strategies and interventions for the nurse to utilize as a means to control distressing symptoms of serious illness, enhance comfort, and improve quality of life throughout the duration of the illness.
