Course overview

Amongst other variables, the impact of COVID-19 and excessive healthcare expenditures have given rise to significant changes within physical therapy practice, especially in the outpatient setting. As a result, clinicians have been tasked with the responsibility to identify those driving variables and respond appropriately to the public, for both medical and physical needs, especially as outpatient settings begin to see an influx of COVID 19 survivors and medically unstable patients who fear exposure to the virus. In addition to changes in referral patterns and medical complexity, outpatient physical therapy clinics should be prepared to address a variety of presentations that warrant a comprehensive approach to effective clinical care. This course will introduce influential factors that have contributed to the evolution of outpatient physical therapy practice and review their substantial effects on patient care, safety, and clinician responsibilities.
