Course overview

The impact of PDPM on all skilled nursing settings (including specific changes required of CAH swing bed programs) required an overhaul of policies to practice patterns. As the most substantial change in skilled nursing in over two decades, the focus has just moved from initial training needs to identifying deficits in skilled nursing operational processes and regulatory compliance. This session provides benchmarks with a goal of recognizing and action planning opportunities for improvement. After five months of PDPM, programs have an opportunity to study trends and benchmark their current swing bed program outcomes. While CAH swing beds are not reimbursed under PDPM methodology, clinical outcomes and program compliance to Medicare intent are based on the conceptual changes - from baseline care planning to avoiding hospital readmissions. CAH programs fall under long term care/skilled nursing regulatory requirements and must meet compliance guidelines. Part I of this session will cover a training review, as well as deficits and opportunities. Part II of this session will outline the top five compliance deficits, and as an adjunct to those requirements, provide opportunities for CAHs to learn quality standards that can meet comparable measures as their PPS counterparts are required to report.
