Chemical Agents and Post-Exposure Clinical Specimen Collection

Course overview

The one hour session is an introduction to chemical terrorism . It covers some chemical terrorism events, all six groups of chemical threat agents, specific chemical agents including both Weapons of Mass Destruction and toxic industrial chemicals. The symptoms of exposure, different antidotes as well as first responders personal protection equipment are addressed. It also covers the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CT clinical specimens collection protocol. Additionally, since the samples are evidentiary, FBI Chain of Custody procedures are addressed as well. This is both a lecture and hands-on training. The training is recommended for physicians, nurses, Emergency Department personnel, phlebotomists, laboratory technicians, and others who may collect clinical samples.
