The Stigma of Mens Mental Health
Tracking # 20-794421
Course overview
Mental health among men is highly stigmatized and rarely discussed in communities the same way that mental health is among women. There are various reasons for this stigma that men experience including masculinity roles and the differences in the presentation of symptoms. It is important that mental health professionals are able to accurately identify, diagnose, and treat mental illness in men. This supports long-term health and reduces the likelihood of men engaging in dangerous behavior. This course will review information regarding how the struggles of mental health in men present, why the stigma is so strong, how to reduce stigma, and review a variety of case studies that represent male-specific struggles.
